Grad-night Party with my Cali Gals - celebrating 4 years of giggles 

May's been a pretty fruitful – especially now that school is over and all *YES! 4 years in uni, finally concludes my 16 years in our local education system! Every local student would be able to identify immediately with the trying times (read: dark years) we share – hectic schedules, late nights, occasionally sprinkled with happier giggle-filled moments. You could describe those 16 years juggling school, work, and frequently-changing priorities with one word – “busy”. Yet this, I know, has a very different description of the “busy” fully-adulted Singaporeans would be familiar with. Time is something which I think we learn to use better as we age. And I’d still like to believe, as I have through the years, that busy is always good :)

Work-wise, I've had a few interesting shoots this month – including one which involved a human-flatlay! Either way, while it’s fun to get dolled up with different hair and make up, and try looks I’d never otherwise know or think about trying, the end-effects do have an accumulative negative effect on my hair. You name it, my hair’s been through it – teased, Mohawk, crimped, curled, straightened, bleached, back-combed double over – sometimes a combination of the above, in one sitting! I like to drop by trusty Kenjo Salon to fix me when things get out of hand.

A month ago, we did the Tokyo Inkarami Treatment which had splendid results but this round, we switched things up by alternating with the good ol' Mucota Scena Plus treatment.

Very quickly, we’re approaching the end of February 2017 and I must say that in the past 3 months that Kenjo Salon’s taken over management of my hair – it’s improved way and beyond my wildest dreams. The past 3 months have seen me go from long hair, to a shoulder length cut, before reaching the chic bob that rests upon my head at the moment – and I couldn’t be happier to know that my hair’s in the best care possible. At the moment, all past bleach work has been trimmed off – gone are the days of dry, split ends, that broke off mid-way. We’re talking about well-nourished, soft, silky, healthy hair now.

I checked-in at Kenjo on Thursday after Valentine’s and decided it was fine time to go shorter and sharper. I’d seen how well Senior Stylist Justin handled my hair – he gave me his signature chic bob cut – which was just about growing out to graze my shoulders. This time, Justin got all of my trust and we went shorter – think: aligned with my jawline. Admittedly I got a little worried as Justin zipped away – but once the full blowout was done – it was just razzlin and dazzling!

Justin updated my colour with a Dark Ash Copper Blonde from Davines, finishing off with an Olaplex touch. You know how when you get a fresh colour, you look kind of weird? None of that right here – I immediately fell in love with the shade – it’s so natural, and exactly what I’d always wanted, but missed. Colour-mixing really isn’t an easy thing! The merriest month of all is finally here – it’s almost like as if I live for December. Why? Everyone’s heart gets light, the malls begin playing Christmas carols, it gets windier round home, and … food (nuff said). With all that, come parties, year-end get-togethers and celebrations.

I’m always glad to have my dream team at Kenjo Salon to get me all prepped and primed for these occasions. We’ve been working on improving the condition of my hair after all those bleach works from past hair shows – so a fresh colour has been something on my wishlist for a very long time. I never considered adding more harsh chemicals to my hair after all the damage caused in the past. And more so, after seeing how soft and nourished my hair has gotten since Kenjo began taking care of it.

Then came the photoshoot - December is quite a busy period with more shoots and events. So I’d a booking for a shoot with my all-time favourite magazine, Her World, this Friday. I’d be so sad to go for it with my roots showing, and splashes of varied colour from hair-jobs-past all showing up on the end results would be a serious no-no. A fresh hair colour was definitely something that needed to be done. I discussed this with my stylist, Justin, and he had me all sorted out. Justin set me up with an all-natural, organic hair colour from the Mucota range called Paralux Forest! 

This was near-magic for me. I’ve been using the Mucota Aire-light range of shampoo and treatment since Kenjo Salon introduced it to me, and continuing on with the same range just seemed right – I knew my hair would be safe under their care.

Justin mixed a colour for me that we agreed would look natural, fresh and suited my skin tone. Now usually girls, we know the drill. Hair colours would almost ALWAYS sting the scalp with uncomfortable burning sensations. I braced myself for it when Justin lathered the colour mix into my hair – but lo’and’behold girlios – there was zero discomfort – ZILCH. I used to cringe when stylists rubbed the colour into my hair – they’d be using rubber gloves to protect their skin from the colour and chemicals – which would mean my scalp was exposed to the same damage right? And don’t get me started on the smell. Yet, this Mucota range of hair colour Justin used had none of that. It had no smell at all, and had no stinging sensation on my scalp. I was so glad~

Next up, Justin locked all that goodness in with an Olaplex treatment to retain the moisture and health of my hair. Then was Justin’s signature chic-bob cut that my hair was in great need for. //edit// Here's the look from my shoot with Her World yesterday! We went for some classic old-Hollywood curls in my bob and minimal make up, focusing on clear skin! I can't wait to check out the final results - stay tuned for more!
